Connected Care, autonomy and professional growth

Destination Pet is dedicated to elevating the lives of pet families through our Connected Care approach, which focuses on the total wellbeing of the pet. Unlike other companies, we empower our clinical experts to define the best approach to veterinary care while we take care of the business. Our job is to handle the administrative side of running a veterinary practice so that you can focus all of your energy on providing exceptional care. In addition, we give you opportunities to grow your skillset, your practice, and your career. Anything is possible when you Join The Pack at Destination Pet.

Jason Shine, Senior Director of Business Development

Jason Shine is the Senior Director of Business Development for Destination Pet in the Midwestern Region of the US. Jason came to Destination Pet from NVA Pet Resorts where he was the Business Development Director covering the Western half of the US.

Prior to this last role, Jason owned and operated three pet resorts in San Francisco and Cincinnati for over 17 years. These locations offered dog daycare, overnight boarding, full-service grooming, dog training, pickup/delivery, and retail. Jason built these businesses from the ground up, operated them, and then sold them.

Having gone through the pet resort sales process several times, Jason is very aware of all the hesitation and concern that comes with the possibility of selling a business that each owner worked so hard to create. Whether pet resort owners are interested in selling in the near term or many years down the road, Jason enjoys working with pet resort owners to earn their trust, build long-term business relationships, and help to determine exit strategies that maximize business value.

In Memoriam: Jerry Mussenden

It is with deep sorrow, we remember Jerry Mussenden, a respected leader in the pet care industry and a beloved family man. As Senior Director of Business Development at Destination Pet, Jerry was a true expert in business valuation and profit expansion for pet centers, always eager to share his knowledge and help others succeed.

Jerry’s career spanned decades of leadership, from pioneering the pet resort division at National Veterinary Associates to honing his strategic expertise in the pharmaceutical industry. He was not just a consultant, he was a mentor, a visionary, and a trusted friend to many in the industry.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry was a devoted husband and father who cherished life in Tampa Bay, where he built a home filled with love, laughter, and furry companions. He was a proud pet parent to two rescue dogs and helped care for a menagerie of small pets. Above all, he treasured time with his wife, daughters, and extended family, making every moment count.

Jerry’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the businesses he helped grow, and the family he adored. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
